The science behind GMOs has not been perfected, yet. The biotechnology industry is constantly improving, but only time will tell for the potential benefits, or risks, GMOs pose.

Public Opinion

Wherever GMOs are grown, public opinion is varied. A majority of United States adults believe that genetically modified foods are unsafe to eat. Opposers of GMOs demand that all genetically food be labeled, a topic which has been debated about for decades. Despite scientists reaching consensus on the safety of GMOs, skeptics are persistent on stricter regulations on genetically modified food. Most of their beliefs, however, are based around common misconceptions.

An extensive amount of studies have been released, covering the effects genetically modified foods have on long-term health, the environment, and economy. Nearly all these studies have confirmed that

GMOs do NOT damage long-term health or the environment!

"Frankenfood"

Genetically modified food has received a nickname of "Frankenfood". The idea is that scientists are fighting against Mother Nature by playing with the genetic information of the food we consume. A very important question must be asked when creating a new innovation:

 

Do the benefits outweigh the potential consequences?

 

GMOs are constantly compared to their well-liked counterparts, organic food. It has been argued that using unnatural process can lead to some dangerous implications. Farmers have been exploiting crops for their own interest from as early as 8000 BC, so is this process really considered unethical?
